Overview

Signal Labs runs quantitative research on public infrastructure data. We built the internal terminal they now use daily — a keyboard-first, low-chrome workbench that treats the graph as the first-class citizen.

01 · Constraint

The mouse should be optional.

Every action reachable by keyboard; every keyboard action discoverable. We designed a command palette that reads like a small language, then wrote the docs inside the app itself.

02 · Layer

Charts that respect the data.

The charting layer refuses to smooth outliers, refuses to auto-fit axes, refuses to lie. Researchers said it was the first tool that felt like it was on their side.
